Kwara State Hosts Successful HCD Workshop for Media Professionals.

Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the National Office of Human Capital Development (HCD), Abuja, successfully hosted a 1-Day Impactful Workshop for the media industry, reinforcing the critical role of media in advancing HCD initiatives. The event was chaired by the Honorable Commissioner for Communication Hon. Bolanle Olukoju. She introduced the theme and declared the event open. Hon. Bolanle Olukoju commended the Governor’s commitment to digital and innovative initiatives, such as the Innovation Hub, which provides training opportunities for youth. She urged media professionals to leverage these initiatives, emphasizing that media is more than just news reporting but a tool for societal transformation. In her opening remarks, Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam PhD, as the Focal person for HCD in Kwara State, highlighted that Human Capital Development is about people ensuring they are healthy, educated, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the society. She further noted that under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, Kwara State has made significant progress, including: • Increased school enrollment, ensuring more children have access to quality education. • Expanded healthcare services, with a focus on mothers and children. • Empowerment programs for women and youth, equipping them with skills needed to drive Kwara’s economic growth. Kwara Govt directs temporary closure of forests to protect environment, public health

Kwara State Government has directed the temporary closure of all forests in the state with immediate effect. This directive followed a top management meeting of the Ministry of Environment, chaired by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The Commissioner explained that the temporary closure is a necessary step to monitor and ensure natural regeneration of the forest, which has suffered numerous human interference. Apart from illegal tree-felling for charcoal production, the sawmillers also distort the ecosystem by cutting various kinds of trees without any regard for the regeneration process or implemention of laid down procedures for refforestation, Hajia Buge said. "The Forestry Directorate will invite various stakeholders for various levels of engagements to restore normalcy and ensure our forests are not depleted without regard for its attendant implications on the overall climate of our state," according to the Commissioner. Buge implored members of the public who deal in forestry related products to "continue to cooperate with the Ministry and entrench compliance with laws of the state and restrictions during the period of closure". Fire Outbreak at Al-Jazeera Street, Tanke, Ilorin

On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 23:33 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service was alerted to a fire outbreak at Al-Jazeera Street, MFM, Tanke, Ilorin. Our fire crew immediately deployed to the scene to combat the inferno. Upon arrival, we found a twin 3-bedroom flat completely engulfed in flames due to the delayed alert. Nevertheless, our gallant firefighters exhibited remarkable professionalism and succeeded in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring buildings. The operation lasted several hours and required the replenishment of water supplies at the brigade headquarters during the firefighting process. Unfortunately, the fire consumed the entire building, including three rooms in the boys’ quarters. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge. The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, sympathized with the affected residents and reiterated the importance of adhering to fire safety and electrical precautionary measures.
