Ancient Shao Town, Kwara State - History & Aerial Pictures

Ancient Shao town is one of the wonderful places to explore in Kwara State , with beautiful venues like the Bassa river, Oke yelu, Oke Sininniga etc. Shao is located in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State and about 12 kilometers away from Ilorin, Kwara State capital. The historic event which brought these original four settlements together to become the large community which it is today, provided the name for the community. It was the agreement among the hunters that it would be mutually beneficial to each of them and to the collective survival of their respective settlements if they could all gather together, close to one another, rather than in scattered locations so that they could be chanting together. This idea or suggestion translated thus: “E jeki a sa ara wa jo, ki a ma jo ma ho po” in Yoruba which means (let’s form one big family together to be making some familial noise) in English. It was from this historic agreement that the new community was born. It was also from this historic agreement that the new community took its name, “SHAO” where “SA” means to gather and “HO” means to make noisy/chat together. https://kwaraconnect.com/bode-saadu-kwara/ The name is today being variably written as “SAO/SHAO”. Any of the two variants is an acceptable version of the original name “SHAO” but one which is commonly used and acceptable by people today is “SHAO”’.
