Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the National Office of Human Capital Development (HCD), Abuja, successfully hosted a 1-Day Impactful Workshop for the media industry, reinforcing the critical role of media in advancing HCD initiatives.
The event was chaired by the Honorable Commissioner for Communication Hon. Bolanle Olukoju. She introduced the theme and declared the event open. Hon. Bolanle Olukoju commended the Governor’s commitment to digital and innovative initiatives, such as the Innovation Hub, which provides training opportunities for youth. She urged media professionals to leverage these initiatives, emphasizing that media is more than just news reporting but a tool for societal transformation.
In her opening remarks, Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam PhD, as the Focal person for HCD in Kwara State, highlighted that Human Capital Development is about people ensuring they are healthy, educated, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the society. She further noted that under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, Kwara State has made significant progress, including:
• Increased school enrollment, ensuring more children have access to quality education.
• Expanded healthcare services, with a focus on mothers and children.
• Empowerment programs for women and youth, equipping them with skills needed to drive Kwara’s economic growth.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Aishat Imam-Omoloso, ably represented by Dr Abdulkadir Oba Laaro, provided an insightful and productive speech, emphasizing the importance of human capital investment in driving sustainable development.
A high-powered panel session featured notable media experts, including: Dr. Abdulkadir Oba Laaro, Hajiya Zulfa Adeyemi and Mr. Ajayi Adeyemi. Their discussions focused on the role of the media in raising awareness about HCD initiatives, ensuring that the public remains informed and engaged in the development process.
Also in attendance was the Director General of Michael Imoudu National Institute For Labour Studies (MINILS), Comrade Issa Aremu , along with other distinguished personalities, making the event a resounding success.
This remarkable workshop reaffirms Kwara State’s commitment to Human Capital Development, with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs leading the charge in amplifying HCD initiatives across the state. The engagement of media professionals is a significant step towards achieving a more informed, educated, and empowered society.
